Oorie
Just in case you were looking for a word to describe today's weather oorie is defined in the OED as:
Dismal, gloomy; cheerless; miserable as a result of cold, illness, etc.
Which just about sums it up.
P.S. I'm going to be lingering at the Waterstones Covent Garden author's evening tonight from five till eight-thirty. If you're in the area, do come along and say hello.

ReplyDeleteI've been reading this blog for a few days- ever since I got my copy of the Etymologicon, which is the most excellent book.....I found it by accident on Amazon, read the excerpt and was hooked. Since buying it I have been boring friends with excerpts almost daily and would say it's the most entertaining book I've found in ages.......does that help your delicate ego Mark???
